The phrase '苟日新,日日新,又日新' was inscribed on a bathtub by Cheng Tang, the founding monarch of the Shang Dynasty, as a reminder to himself to constantly strive for self-improvement and innovation. The three occurrences of '新' originally referred to washing away the dirt from the body during bathing, symbolizing a fresh start physically. Here, it is metaphorically extended to signify the continuous pursuit of spiritual renewal and innovation. Therefore, the essence of this phrase is: if one can renew oneself daily, then one must persevere in doing so consistently.
